About The Castaglia String Quartet

Well-known in the Baltimore-Washington area, The Castaglia Quartet was founded in the 1980’s by a group of Peabody Conservatory students. This group of friends were dedicated to performing  music of a variety of styles and genres, always  seeking the highest level of enjoyment not only for the audience, but for the musicians themselves.

The membership has changed over the years, but the current incarnation of the quartet remains true to the original idea of combining examples of music from different eras to provide a memorable concert experience.  The musicians hail from Canada, Scotland and the United States, and have been performing together in many different venues for more than twenty years.  With a combined experience in opera, chamber music, musical theater, rock music, pop, and contemporary, the Castaglia Quartet brings a fresh perspective to every performance.

“Castaglia” is the Italian spelling of the name of the naiad nymph of Delphi, who, according to Greek mythology, inhabited the prophetic spring of the Delphic oracle and was the source of inspiration for the Muses.
